Michael Fohner joined the U.S. Mint in November 2023 as the Deputy Superintendent of the Philadelphia Mint.

Commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps in 1994, Mike served on active duty for five years and as a reservist for another seven years. He held roles in the military as Construction Manager, Engineering Officer, Training Officer, Bravo Company Commander, Instructor, and Operations Officer. He served as Officer-in-Charge on several deployments including the Persian Gulf and Antarctica, where he led Seabees and Combat Stevedores in operational environments.

Mike has held several positions in the federal service to include Project Manager, Supervisory Project Manager, Engineering Branch Head, Deputy Public Works Officer, and his most recent role of Deputy Director for the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center, a classified manufacturing plant for U.S. Navy submarine propulsors.

From 2013 to 2020, Mike held various positions outside of the government which included Director of Trades for University of Pennsylvania and Associate Vice President of Facilities and Construction Management for the Community College of Philadelphia. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Pennsylvania and Virginia.

He is a graduate of Villanova University with a degree in mechanical engineering and The George Washington University with a master’s degree in engineering management.

Mike and his wife live in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania where they raised their four sons.
