Chief John Abbey currently serves as the Field Chief for the United States Mint Police in San Francisco, CA. He began his career with the Mint in 1995 and has formerly served as a Police Officer, Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Inspector.

Prior to his career with the Department of Treasury, Chief Abbey served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army. During his military service, he was deployed to the Middle East for the first Gulf War and was stationed at Fort Drum, New York, and various posts throughout Europe. John has attended numerous leadership, supervisory, and managerial courses both through the military and Mint Police culminating in his Rittenhouse award for “Excellence in Leadership” for the United States Mint. He has been a member of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security since 2010.
